Olaplex products do contain fragrance, be it shampoos, conditioners, or other hair treatments.
The following Olaplex products have scents or fragrances added to them:
- Nº.4C Bond Maintenance® Clarifying Shampoo
- Nº.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
- Nº.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum
- Nº.7 Bonding Oil
- Nº.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask
These are just a few of the many products in their hair-care regimen line. You can visit their page for further information if you have a specific product in mind.
All the products are formulated with less than 1% of synthetic fragrance. This in turn minimizes the possibility of scalp irritation or hair damage from chemical compounds. Olaplex products are also phthalate-free, which makes the fragrance component significantly less toxic or harmful.
In addition, all the products use amino acids in their patented technology. These amino acids like glycine, alanine, serine, valine, and isoleucine help to recombine fractured sulfide bonds deep within the hair, restoring its structure and integrity.

Nº.4C Bond Maintenance® Clarifying Shampoo
This Olaplex shampoo is free of sulfates which are harsh surfactants used to clean hair. Instead, other gentle cleansing ingredients are used to remove grime that does not strip the hair of its natural oils.
It is also color-safe and gluten-free, so people with gluten intolerance or celiac disease can use it without hesitation. It deep cleans the scalp while also retaining the hair’s volume and shine.
Nº.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
This Olaplex conditioner provides deep hydration and repair to your locks. The formula uses the Olaplex patented ingredient- Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, to restore the broken bonds within the hair follicles.
This action leaves your hair stronger and healthier and minimizes future damage. Thai product works for all hair types and is 100% vegan, nut-free and cruelty-free.
Nº.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum
The Olaplex hair serum is a protective and restorative product that reduces frizz and static. It shields your hair from the effects of heat and pollution. You can leave it in for 48-hour protection, and rest assured that your hair won’t get all sticky.
There are no silicones in the composition; instead, it uses antioxidants like Red Algae, which enhance hair health. This product also uses the patented OLAPLEX® Bond Building Technology to give you soft, glossy hair.
The serum is paraben and phosphate-free to boot so that sensitive scalp and fragile hair don’t dry out.
Nº.7 Bonding Oil
The Olaplex Bonding Oil is an enriching boost to your hair’s texture and appearance. It smoothes out stray strands and flyaways and also enhances hair color. It gives unhealthy hair a lift, by healing damaged strands, and making it livelier and more vibrant.
The oil is weightless and can be used effectively for styling. It is free of DEA surfactants that could aggravate the scalp skin and trigger allergies. It is also 100% formaldehyde free, and it doesn’t use other aldehydes either.
The latter two compounds are potential carcinogens and may cause organ or hormone disruption and general inflammation from prolonged use.
Nº.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask
This Olaplex mask is a rejuvenating treatment for brittle, coarse, treatment for chemically-damaged hair. It will restore the original luster, infuse moisture and add tons of body to limp hair. This is the perfect stimulation for naturally abundant, nourished hair.
Other than a generic fragrance or perfume ingredient in the list of constituent components, these products often contain additional scent ingredients. These include hexyl cinnamal, linalool, limonene, citral, and citronellal.
These fragrance ingredients give all the products a very light, airy scent of citrus (lemon and orange), and floral notes.
These ingredients may also double up for other functions like preservatives, antimicrobials, or antifungals. Because they are so minimal, the scent is only faintly detected.
Is the Olaplex Fragrance toxic? Are there fragrance-free options?
As of the moment, no Olaplex products are unscented or fragrance-free. But that doesn’t mean that the fragrances used are toxic. Earlier this year, a controversy erupted over the fragrance component of the No.3 Hair Perfector.
The European Union banned this product as it contained lilial or butylphenyl methylpropional. Even though the amounts used were minimal, and did not pose any significant health risk, Olaplex withdrew the product for re-formulation.
So even if there was a health hazard before, there isn’t one now. Having said this, fragrance compositions are notorious for being obscured by companies.
Nobody really knows which of the possibly 250 or more ingredients are being used, because the fragrance is not regulated. Their proprietary components don’t have to be disclosed publicly.
This must be kept in mind; but otherwise, Olplaex is as safe as houses. So far!
